Strategy #4: Use the Given Information Effectively
Some examples:
Pay attention to units. Are there any unit conversions involved? Pay attention to given constraints on values, like domains.
Are we given any restrictions on the unknown quantities? Know the different number systems.
Discern any information you may be given in a word problem about the slope or y-intercept. A constant rate of change indicates the slope. An initial value indicates the y-intercept.
Are we given specific values, such as an ordered pair? Be sure to use it. Plug it into an equation or inequality if one is given.
